Asim Munir’s Military Career
Asim Munir is the first army chief in Pakistan’s history to have headed both Military Intelligence and the Inter-Services Intelligence. That intelligence background is a big part of why his diplomatic role today carries so much weight. During the 2025 India-Pakistan conflict, it was under his command that Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos. The federal cabinet unanimously promoted him to Field Marshal for his courage and leadership. Only one other person in Pakistan’s history has held that rank. Ayub Khan.
